I threw a stone into the river just to see the ripples dance I tied a handbell to my kite string to try and guide you out of hell I planted bindweed under your balcony so I could climb into your nest, Pull the veins out of my left hand and make a ribbon for your dress I pawned my eyes out at the market: there was nothing left to observe I tipped the newsboy with a fortune, rearranged his words into your name I tried to build your cyborg copy but it turned out a bit askew I yelled out to God make me defective so I could be fixed up by You Oh, You Yes, You You know who you are, You A white dove landed on my window ledge, felt like the perfect place to roost Her black eyes spied me with envy, her heart overflowing with lust I spotted her while lighting my candles: she got startled and immediately flew Her presence reminded me of eternity, her absence reminded me of You Oh, You Yes, You You know who you are, You So now I find myself in darkness, where I can’t see the orchids bloom Locked up in some maniac’s basement, chained to a replica of the Moon In each crater there’s a mirror and she lights some candles every noon Brings me food almost every Wednesday, except for when I ask about You Oh, You Yes, You You know who you are, You

Twenty eight days make the shortest month During the day we drink, but at night we mourn The grasshopper jumped, but not high enough So The Velvet Lynx kept his perfect score A red dress worn on a bloody night A violin played pizzicato style Cold chow-mein on a poorly lit nightstand A gut shot man’s scream tears the fog in half Diamond fanged black feline A pale neck sprayed with pink perfume Attracts the attention of our friend With a rose in his teeth he hunts his prey Crouched beneath the crescent moon “Beware”, they scream, “of The Velvet Lynx” “Beware of his mysterious ways” All while he watches from the dark Sharpening his diamond claws Diamond fanged black feline The children weep as the sun sets behind The mount in which it’s said resides The Velvet Lynx and his thousand sisters

Beware of her spider web strings, don’t get tangled up as you try and leave her place And try not to evoke her crystal blue eyes on your long drive home And as the pines disappear from your rear view and melt with the icy road You can entertain your thoughts with something in the lines of “will I ever come here again?” Or the thought of her naughty grin after the third shot of gin She’ll juggle with the wine bottle cork when she’s in a playful mood And laugh when it falls from the bridge onto someone’s head They’ll menacingly shout, facing skyward, looking for a culprit But won’t be able to avoid letting the incident slide as soon as they see her face And feel lucky to have even been touched by a flake of her grace Hangovers are less of a pain when they find you in her bed Laying next to her skin carefully wrapped in her black negligee And if Jesus died for my sins he would be very glad that he didn’t die in vain Because lust is a powerful thing and I’m afraid I can’t help myself From crawling out of my misery towards the edge of her dress But her company is of the volatile kind Could be gone in the blink of an eye Even though that well may be a part of her charm So be sure to engrave her sight the next time you’re in her room And lock it into the most solid safe you can find in your brain One tested by time, that can even withstand an atomic bomb impact Because, due a change in the wind or a mood used to swing, you could find yourself caught Between a wall made of ice and a silent goodbye

Ten shots deep in a Monday night The rain ignites under a neon sign Her purple dress with thin back stripes Mutates and mimics the changing lights And as she proudly walks across the room The clocks go “tick” and the minds go “whoo” She sees me see her through the mirrored wall Sits next to me and orders drinks for too Strange recollections of a Monday night We had some drinks, went for a stroll outside With a tiny umbrella in charge of keeping dry Her purple dress with thin black stripes Her purple dress with thin black stripes Her purple dress with thin black stripes Her purple dress with thin black stripes

My girl’s an ocean away Farther than the truth about Area 51 Farther away than Z is from A Farther away that Nairobi from Quebec Farther away, farther away I can picture her dress on my desk My writing’s become such a mess And I can still feel her arms around my waist Right before she heads for the boarding gates My girl’s an ocean away Farther than the promise of a decent mental state Farther away than the center’s from the edge Farther away than Da Vinci’s from Lautrec Farther away, farther away Even the ice in my drink spells her name As it gently floats and melts away My scattered thoughts on display Without making sense they parade My girl’s an ocean away Farther than the lost love of a former friend Farther away than the prologue from the end Farther away than Miles Davis’ from Coltrane Farther away, farther away
